Before Jordan goes to daycare, I put him in his Exersaucer so I can prep his milk bottles and move everything into the car. It's a good distraction for him as he has many toys to play with. But one toy in particular he has a love/hate relationship with. There's this turtle that he constantly chews on and "talks to." But every so often, he'll get really mad at it and let out this angry shriek. He's funny that way. And then he'll just go back to gnawing on the turtle's feet. Anyways, below is a photo of it in action.
Jordan is also fond of "Sophie the Giraffe." It's been around since the 1970's, but has only gotten around the US in the last few years. It's made of organic rubber so it's supposedly safer for babies to chew on. When Elaine and I heard about it, we were like, "We ain't dropping $25 for a chew toy." It turned out that Elaine's friend received 2 of them as gifts and she gave one to us. (SCORE!) Now Jordan treats Sophie like how a vampire treats it's victim, or how a lion would treat a real giraffe, or how I would treat Deep Fried <---enter food of choice here--->.
If you've met Jordan, you know that he's generally a very sweet boy. Many parents tell us that he's easy going and that we're lucky. I have to agree. The pictures below really show how sweet he can be.

2010MAR27 - Tamarra's 1st Birthday
As I said before, one of the reasons for making the 350mi drive to SoCal was for friends and family. Elaine's high school friend, Cara, was hosting a 1-year old birthday party for their daughter Tamarra (upper right corner photo). It was a good opportunity for Elaine to catch up with her friends as well as allowing Jordan to attend his first birthday party. It was actually a good strategy to tire him out. We had a wedding to attend that evening and had Elaine's parents babysit.

2010MAR26 - Balboa Park
We took another trip down to Southern California this weekend to visit some friends and to spend some time with Elaine's parents. "Po-po and Gung-Gung" took us to Balboa Park to witness the Cherry Blossom in full bloom.
They also have two large play parks. We placed Jordan in a bucket swing. He liked it, but was more fascinated with his surroundings. There were a lot of families there. There was even a TV crew filming a show. Just another day in L.A.
Jordan didn't even care that he was wearing a hat. I hope he continues to oblige as he grows older.
It was a great day, the sun was out, no wind, and cool enough to rock a hoody. The weather and shade helped us get some great shots.

2010MAR20 - Avocado
Jordan started on "solids" a little over 2 weeks ago. We started with Iron fortified rice cereal, and decided it was time to move forward and feed him avocado. The upside is he likes it quite a bit. The downside is I now have more competition for avocado. I am so tempted to say "one bite for you, one bite for me!"

2010MAR12 - Sitting Up
2010MAR11 - Congestion
Jordan has been a relatively "easy" baby thus far. He's definitely more demanding now that he's a little older, but it's nothing that Elaine and I can't deal with. The past few days though, Jordan has come down with a cold. He's congested, sleeping more, and even had a fever of 101.9 the other night. Throughout it all, his playful demeanor never disappeared. He was still laughing and talking like everything was normal. I tried to put him down to sleep but he wanted to play so much that I couldn't resist just "chillin'" with Jordan a little longer (see photo).
Congestion aside, he's been doing really well at daycare. In the beginning, he was a little cautious, always monitoring his surroundings but never letting his guard down. But just this past week, his care givers have been raving and gushing over him. He talks to them and even laughes with them. Elaine feeds him during her lunch hour and this particular day, when she finished, the care giver just couldn't wait to hold Jordan again. It was really weird since she never really seemed like the "gushy" type. We're thankful that Jordan is loved at daycare. It's one of those "firsts" that new parents have to deal with.
As of today, Jordan still has a cough, but no more fever. Here's to my strong little guy!

2010MAR06 - New High Chair
So we waited a few days after Jordan turned 6-months old to actually feed him his first bite of rice cereal. Couple that with trying out his new high chair, and it made for a slightly frustrating few minutes. He didn't like the chair at first, but he got used to it for a little while.
Feeding him the rice cereal proved to be more difficult than we thought. Mainly b/c Jordan doesn't know how to eat from a spoon. But, he'll get the hang of it soon enough. He likes to swat at the spoon as it gets closer to his mouth, causing minor milk/rice spills around him. After a few minutes of this, his impatience with the lack of food intake took over and Elaine eventually fed him to keep him happy. But yet another milestone for our little Jordan. Proud of you bud!
